You're right. In AA they say that alcoholism doesn't discriminate, and I've always known that must be wrong, but I'm no sociologist. And you're also right that we don't all start at the same floor. I have been lucky in many ways, beyond just managing to quit drinking before addiction took a firmer grip...

I know that alcohol saves lives. That is a very effective coping strategy. And I'm not blaming people for using it. How could I when I did it for so long?
