Hi Doran,

I agree with the part about family, that never sat well with me either, as I quickly realised (once I got sober) how my parents had let me down when I needed them and how I turned to booze instead. But I was lucky to have a different experience with aa than you in other respects and there was a lot of laughter at the dark comedy of being drunk a lot and where it takes you.

The thing with AA is that it changes group by group, so there are lots of different ways people can be met by it.

It sure isn’t perfect, and I attend less often but just wanted to share that your experience sounds a bit unfortunate or at least not typical of the meetings I’ve found in Bristol.

I hear also that the US is very Christian God focused whereas in the UK our spirituality is generally a lot more mysterious and vague which suits me.
